I am thrilled to be preparing for a wonderful pageant! Selecting my pageant gown and gathering goodies to bring along,This has truly been a dream come true, I am counting down the days!!
My title as Miss California US Beauties, has almost come to an end, however the memories and beautiful faces I have come across are priceless! I plan to continue to educate and involve myself in the community long after my title.
My national platform that I am very proud to speak about is:
Cervical Cancer Awareness
National Cervival Cancer Coalition.
Cervical Cancer Awareness
National Cervival Cancer Coalition.
Cervical Cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in women and if caught early can be prevented. I hope to encourage women in the community to get regular pap tests as well as educate them about the spread of HPV.
I invite you to view a video of Jade goody, she fought her courgeous battle and defied reasoning, despite the negative tabloids. She was 27 years old, a mother and a wife.
This gives a message that cervical cancer can affect us in our twenties, thirties and so on. Jade goody had abnormal cells at the early age of 16 and battled it until turned into full blown cancer. My message is to get annual check ups as well as request an HPV test if you are sexually active.
Cancerous HIGH RISK HPV has NO symptoms and is only detected through a test. People often mistake it as a std that only promiscuous women spread. The truth is that any woman who has had sex, even with just one partner, could have been exposed to HPV, which is a very COMMON virus About 8 out of 10 women will have had HPV at some point in time by the age of 50.
High risk HPV is not warts.
About 80% of women have been exposed to this and our immune system usually fights it off, but for some it doesnt and eventually becomes cancer. Current guidelines only test for HPV if your are 30 or above and advise paptests every 2 years, but it is a true epidemic affecting those younger than 30.
You have to be your own voice about your body,
Speak up its your body and your future!
