I found him interesting and wanted to know more about him. Sadly it all made sense as to why this beautiful dog was so silent, it was a sad case of neglect. This poor animal had been starved and was aloof in fear. I got the opportunity to play with him and get to know this quiet find. It took a few attempts but after an hour his eyes finally lit up. I decided to take a chance and adopt him and somehow fit him into my life.
I must say days later, this by far was one of the best choices I have made! You see when an animal is put in a caring and loving environment it will release good energy and vice versa. Its been proven that animals bring out our own nurturing instincts.
When introducing him to my family, I noticed a reaction from my grandmother that was unreal. My grandmother whom has dementia, often remains silent and blank to the reality around her. However in the moment he came to her, her eyes lit up with joy and she was so very focused on him, wanting to feed him and calling his name. Its just simply amazing and quite possibly one of the best forms of mental stimulation.
In researching this further I found that dogs are helpful to cancer patients. Cancer can make one discouraged, hopeless and empty, but with a nurturing animal by your side it brings a sense of unconditional acceptance and peace.
My Journey with my new found joy has just begun, But so far the benefits of my therapeutic dog are outweighing the negatives. If you are ever curious I invite you to check out my new baby below as well as your local SPCA, these animals are in need of good homes in the Sacramento area or your local SPCA:
